2025 Kickoff Email Newsletter

I am taking a new approach this year to the newsletter email that you all subscribe to (thank you for that!) with a more shorthand form of what is going on in the CV food and drink scene. I will do my best to put out a short and brief weekly update of the new places I have been and am going in the coming week. I will even include places I have been to before but try new dishes or items at since its still new in a sense.

I have gotten busy and remain quite busy since late November with a new contract assignment with Booz Allen Hamilton and their Human Performance Division. This on top of my part-time personal training at Shannon Health Club, my part-time teaching role at ASU as an adjunct instructor for the Kinesiology school, and my own sport training for powerlifting. And of course, I try my best to be a good dad and husband to my stepson and wife with the time I have left over.

What can I say, I like to keep busy!

Wandering Mind Craft Beer

I recently placed an order of craft beer from Kathryn and Grant and loved every one of them! I am not a big beer person so to say that is rare for me. Here are the ones I got and highly recommend you try.

We attended this Saturday from 2-5 at the Abilene Convention Center with 2 other couples. For $26 each you get 3 hours time to sample 10 Texas wine vendors plus some other food/craft vendors. I felt this was well worth it and well run. We will likely go again next year and try other locations as well. I hope San Angelo brings this to town soon also! See video of venue in action here.

BeeHive Steakhouse and Saloon

I have had this spot on my must visit list for over a year and finally checked it off! I will be coming back here many times again as this was fantastic! A local favorite and popular spot for over 40 years and now I see why. This is now on my top 10 restaurants in Texas in fact so consider that. Items we got and you cannot go wrong trying yourself but don't stop here! The menu has so much more to pick from!

Amber Dragon Meadery

I have now been here 5x in 4 years and wish it was so much more. This place got me hooked and kept me hooked on truly good, authentic style Nordic(Viking) mead. Ron Poston the owner is a character and you'll quickly love this guy and his mead which he brews in house himself with real honey and real fruit. The store is decked out hardcore in all thinks Viking and Nordic culture. Free popcorn to all who stop in. He sells all of his 30+ flavors by the 12oz bottle and in 4x4oz flights. We did that later this time and shared 2 flights among the 4 of us. Everything was on par as usual. Mind you his mead is typically around 10-14% ABV so pace yourself! Ron's mead is also on tap now here in San Angelo at SoCo Taproom and changes weekly.


The next place I will be hitting along with my partner in crime(wife) plus 2 other close friends/couples, is the Jan 23 Supper Club Dinner at The Plated Dish. We just made the call this week to go ahead and do this AGAIN after some deep thought and could not resist the new menu Chef Nicole has put out so here we go for round 2 this coming Thursday evening. Spots may be sold out by now as we just snuck in but if your interested its worth checking to get on the wait list! You really must do at least one of these if your a local resident foodie!

February 20th, I am hosting a 6-set wine tasting/education event in partner with The Secret Garden Lounge. This event is free and open to the first 10 people to sign up. Here you will experience the amazing new serene environment of The Secret Garden and sample 7 Chilean red wines from the Aconcagua Valley of Chile. More event info is available here.

Introduction It has been 2 weeks now since our return from our 10 day vacation of which 7 was spent onboard the Carnival Luminosa cruise ship.
